Homestead Update: The “Guest Nest”

So long stinky, green carpet and hello Guest Nest!

For the first time in my adult life i have a whole room dedicated to the staying of friend sand family … and maybe one day paying guests. We still need to put a real bed in there, but for now the nest is a welcoming place with brand new carpet (made from recycled plastic bottles!) and all the comforts of home including a full guest bathroom.

We ripped out the carpet and pad ourselves (thank you, husband) and sprayed down the whole room, including the walls with Nature’s Miracle. I also painted the nastiest stained areas with Kilz. Disgusting cat odor gone! Beautiful carpet that i wish i had in the entire house: installed by local Dallas, OR company: House of Floors. I will use this room as my sewing room and photo lightroom if i ever get to setting up a proper lightbox (those mobiles are too cool to list such crappy photos of them!) but it will remain lovely and ready for guests at all times!

And guests we are hosting! Last week we had Andy’s parents followed by some old friends from Austin. This weekend we have my sister from Wisconsin and her family plus our dad and step-mom. Next week we get my other sister from Wisconsin and her daughter. Whirlwind! I love it, though and can’t wait to host many friends and family here at Birdsong Farm.

A little better than the futon in the living room, ay?
