I can’t say that i’m always up this early, but today i beat these boys to the day.
I’m off to Provenance Farm to help process just shy of 200 turkeys to grace local tables this coming holiday. I’m donating my day and get to bring home a fresh, pastured turkey to feed my own family on Thanksgiving. It’s going to be a loooong day, but i’m proud to truly host this holiday, from slaughter to presentation. Maybe next year i’ll have homegrown veggies to serve alongside!
Why do we have three roos, may you ask? Quite by mistake, as is often the case. Davey Crocket (speckled sussex) and Mike (wyandotte) came home as chicks. DC used to be head roo but i came upon a gorgeous and HUGE blue Orpington roo recently who took to the top rank right away. He’s about a month older than our little guys, an expert crower, and destined to make some lovely and big babies in the spring. Davey will be our ‘egg dad’ and Mike… he’s just awkward.
Off i go!
