Homestead Update – Shiny New Floors!

We finally made significant change to the interior of our home! Our bedroom almost looks like a real grownup space: we finished laying the floor!

I tapped and measured while my husband filled the laundry room with sawdust by cutting the boards for me. It was an excellent team effort and we finished the whole room in one weekend. (What a workout – i think my hamstrings still hurt!) Now all we have to do to finish this room is:

  • trim the floor
  • re-mount Andy’s closet doors
  • paint the floor vents/ registers
  • design and build my entire closet system. (I’m tired of boxes stacked up in a corner, darnit! I will have shelves! Built in shelves built to my whimsy!!)

Also, we need to get a new bed and build or buy an actual ‘bed’ like with a headboard and footboard instead of a boxspring on the floor. Some end-tables might be nicer than upside down boxes as well, but we’re not total dreamers. haha.

Feels good to have a real floor AND fresh paint in at least one room of the house. I think we’ll tackle the living room next weekend. Anything to help us ignore the grass that is rapidly growing out front while we don’t have a working tractor or lawnmower….

    It looks awesome!

  2. They turned out great! I know what you mean about your hamstrings, ha! Like I said before, I’m getting a bit too old for that! The last floor Hubby& I laid over a year ago liked to kill us, lol!

Also a good idea that you started with the bedroom… that was always our ‘sanctuary’ no matter what was going on outside those doors, good, bad or otherwise.

    Love the homestead updates!

Maybe you should borrow someone’s goat or two to get your grass mowed!

  3. Beautiful! Great job! I’m sure you’re loving it!

Love the floors. They really add a clean, classy look to the room. And I like the suggestion you got about goats. You can usually borrow someone’s to work on your grass and brush or you might want to consider getting a few for the farm. Pocket would probably like them.

  5. It looks beautiful!! Great job! :)

Floor looks great but looks like it could be rather slippy for a set of paws….

  7. She’s used to slippery floors, Mich. She was raised on slippery bamboo back in Austin. It’s actually quite fun to get her on her belly and spin her around. :)

Lol….isn’t there a Royal Corgi law outlawing such undignified behaviour? 😉
